Labelling AI Content in WordPress – the Grafiduo AI Content Flag Plugin

Images from generators, product photos retouched with AI tools and copy drafted with the help of language models have become standard in online communication. Since 2 August 2026, however, the AI Act requires publishers to inform their audience when content has been generated or modified by artificial intelligence. To meet this requirement, we have built Grafiduo AI Content Flag – a free WordPress plugin for labelling such content with the official European Commission icons.

Why Label AI-Generated Content

Article 50 of the AI Act introduces a transparency obligation: the audience must be informed that an image, video or text has been generated or modified using AI. To support this, the European Commission has published a set of official icons that anyone can use free of charge.

Plugin Features

Labelling is manual and deliberate – the plugin does not detect AI content automatically. The decision to apply a label rests with the publisher; the plugin makes sure it is displayed correctly.

Three Official EU Labels

  • AI – artificial intelligence was used in creating the content.
  • AI Generated – the content was produced entirely by AI, with no human input beyond the prompt.
  • AI Modified – authentic material was partially altered by AI.

Each option in the editor includes a short description of when it applies, making it easy to choose the right label without revisiting the regulation every time.

What Can Be Labelled

  • Images and video from the media library – the label appears on the image, including in the enlarged view and on CSS background images.
  • Posts and pages – an AI disclosure is placed at the start or the end of the content.
  • Featured images, galleries, Cover blocks and content built with Elementor
  • WooCommerce product images – the label is visible wherever the image is displayed.

Management in the Admin Panel

  • Bulk actions in the media library – apply or remove labels for many files at once.
  • An “AI” column in the media library and post lists, giving a quick overview of labelled content.
  • Four icon variants – black, white and their 50% transparent versions.
  • Accessibility – every label has a description available to screen readers.
  • Block and classic editor – no shortcodes or extra blocks required.

Installation and Configuration

The plugin requires WordPress 5.8+ and PHP 7.4+. Setup takes just a few minutes:

  1. Install the plugin from the WordPress.org directory (Plugins → Add New) or upload the ZIP file.
  2. Activate it on the Plugins screen.
  3. Go to Settings → AI Flag and choose the icon variant and where the disclosure appears in posts (start or end).
  4. Label a file in Media → Library (the “AI label” field) or a post in the “AI label (Art. 50)” box in the editor sidebar.

The label appears on the site as soon as the changes are saved.

Extended Capabilities: the Pro Version

The free version is fully functional – it requires no licence key and has no hidden limitations. For shops and websites that want labels to match their brand identity, we offer the Grafiduo AI Content Flag Pro add-on:

  • a text badge with custom text, colours and a choice of image corner,
  • a keyboard-accessible tooltip with editable descriptions,
  • AI disclosure on additional content types (e.g. products),
  • WooCommerce product gallery integration,
  • translations via Polylang and WPML.

Conclusion

Grafiduo AI Content Flag makes it straightforward to label AI content in line with Article 50 of the AI Act. The plugin provides the official EU icons, labels on images and posts, and tools to manage them in the admin panel – free of charge and with no impact on site performance.
