Case Study · Germania Mint

A catalogue of over 600 products built on WordPress.

We designed and launched the new website for Germania Mint — the mint based in Jelenia Góra. The site features a catalogue with filters, series pages and detailed product pages, an animated brand history, and a B2B section for distributors.

The challenge

Hundreds of products with numerous specifications

Germania Mint releases new series of coins and bullion bars every year. With such a large number of products, it was important that each one could be easily found and its key specifications quickly checked: weight, metal, fineness, strike quality, face value and mintage.

On the one hand, the website is visited by collectors looking for specific coins; on the other, by investors interested in bars of a particular weight.

It was therefore necessary to combine an extensive catalogue with the character of a premium brand. Hence the dark, textured backgrounds, the coin details and references to mythology, but above all a clear structure that does not hinder the user’s experience of the website.

Our approach

We have organised products into entry types using taxonomies

  • We have organised the products within the ‘product’ post type using the following taxonomies: series, type, issue plan and bar type
  • A single catalogue template for coins and bars, with Ajax filtering and browser-side sorting
  • We have designed series pages and product cards featuring the obverse, reverse and full specifications
  • We have added a B2B section: packaging, finishes, a form for distributors and a list of retail outlets
  • GSAP animations and smooth Lenis scrolling triggered only where needed
Process

From a data model to an animated brand story in four stages.

01

Data model

The products were assigned to a dedicated ‘product’ post type with taxonomies for series, type, issue plan and bar type. ACF fields describe the coin’s parameters, whilst user-friendly URLs are generated automatically from the product name and its variant.

02

UX/UI Design

We designed a system based on dark, textured backgrounds, a serif typeface and red accents. The mock-ups covered the homepage, catalogue, series, product, history, packaging and distributor area — for both desktop and mobile.

03

Development

Custom WordPress theme: 17 templates, over 100 sections, catalogue filtering and sorting, galleries, video and bilingual support via Polylang.

04

Animations and Performance

Timeline and transitions based on GSAP, smooth scrolling with Lenis, integration with GTM.

New catalogue

A product list based on ACF fields.

The tiles display the key details of the coins and reveal their reverse side when you hover over them. The grid layout automatically adjusts to the screen width.

Key features

What we delivered.

01

Catalogue with filters and sorting

Coins and bullion bars use a single template — they are distinguished by the ‘type’ taxonomy. Results are loaded via Ajax Load More with the Filters add-on, displaying 12 products per page without reloading the page. Filter options are generated automatically from values stored in the database, so a new denomination or metal appears in the panel without any changes to the code.

02

Series pages with a release timeline

A series page is a ‘series’ taxonomy template. It contains a hero section with the series artwork, a description, a release timeline grouped according to the broadcast schedule taxonomy, and a list of all products in the series. The editor selects the list display format in ACF for each series individually: a standard list, grouped by year, or grouped by weight.

03

Product page with an automatic URL

The page consists of the following sections: front and back with descriptions, a specifications table, a gallery, a video and a button linking to the list of distributors. The URL is generated upon saving, based on the title and ACF fields, so variants of the same coin do not have duplicate URLs.

04

A timeline animated by scrolling

On the history page, the successive stages from 1986 onwards are entries in the ACF repeater. The drawing of lines and the appearance of dates, photos and descriptions are linked to the scroll position via GSAP’s ScrollTrigger.

05

B2B section: packaging and distributors

The packaging catalogue features a list template and a single-product template. The subpages on finishing, stamping and casting use a shared template with modular sections. The form for distributors is powered by Contact Form 7, whilst the list of sales outlets includes a search function by name, address and country.

Mobile

Separate mobile views for key templates.

On the Hero phone, separate graphics are used; the catalogue is laid out in two columns, and the filter panel slides out to the full height of the screen, blocking scrolling on the page below.

Key changes and optimisations

What the client gained.

01

Data structure

Over 600 products in a single post type, assigned to a series, type and broadcast schedule. A new product is a post with ACF fields populated — lists, series pages and filters update automatically.

02

Search and filtering

Ajax filtering by product parameters, sorting by five criteria and a site-wide search function. Filter options are sourced from the database rather than a hard-coded list.

03

Performance

Custom image sizes, separate hero images for mobile, and optimised loading of scripts and styles.

04

Maintenance and editing

Templates built from over 100 ACF sections, interface texts translated in Polylang and Google Tag Manager implemented. The client’s team creates new subpages themselves via the admin panel.
